Cannington Detectives, with oversight from State Security Investigation Group, have charged a 42-year-old man in relation to an incident that occurred in Victoria Park on Sunday, 8 February 2026.
 
About 3.25pm, it will be alleged the man approached a member of the public on Leonard Street and threatened him while in possession of a canister. 
 
It will be further alleged the man also made a Nazi gesture and committed an obscene act in public.
 
Police responded quickly, attending the area and placing the man under arrest. 
 
A 42-year-old man from Victoria Park has been charged with:
• 1 x Made a Nazi gesture that would be visible in a public place
• 1 x Threatened to kill
• 1 x Being armed in a way that may cause fear
• 1 x Obscene acts in public
 
He appeared before Perth Magistrates Court on Monday, 9 February 2026, bail was not considered and he has been remanded in custody. He is next due to appear before Perth Magistrates Court on Monday, 16 February 2026.
 
The Western Australia Police Force has zero tolerance towards this type of offensive behaviour, which has no place in our community. Police will continue to take firm action against any individual or group who seeks to incite hatred or division through public displays of extremist ideology.
