Today marks the beginning of a new era for ethics and accountability in the public sector as Commissioner’s Instruction 40: Ethical Foundations – which includes the new Public Sector Code of Ethics – comes into effect.

The instruction repeals and replaces Commissioner’s Instruction 7: Code of Ethics and Commissioner’s Instruction 8: Codes of Conduct and Integrity Training. The new instruction resets and strengthens the sector’s approach to integrity.

Additionally, the instruction repeals the following Administrative Instructions under clause 5, Schedule 5 of the Public Sector Management Act 1994:

  • Administrative Instruction 102: Official Communications
