
Michael Carey has been appointed as the new Director General of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (the Department), effective 4 August.
Richard Sellers will continue as the Acting Director General of the Department until Michael commences.
Michael is a senior executive with over 20 years’ leadership experience, including in public policy and program reforms which have strongly contributed to economic and social development.
Most recently he served as the Under Treasurer of Queensland as the State’s principal fiscal and economic adviser with responsibility for delivering State budgets and providing policy and strategic advice to the Treasurer and Cabinet.
Prior to this Michael was Associate Director General of The Cabinet Office and CEO of Trade and Investment Queensland. He has previously held senior roles in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet and Department of State Development Queensland where he led strategic economic industry initiatives and major economic policies and programs across government.
Michael has a Master of Public Policy from the University of Oxford, a Bachelor of Arts and Law from the Queensland University of Technology, and a Bachelor of Commerce Politics and Public Policy from Griffith University.
Michael graduated from Duntroon in 2001 as a member of the Queensland University Regiment and served as a reservist officer in the 9th Battalion Royal Queensland Regiment at Enoggera.
