The State Government has delivered the new Logistics Training Centre in Hazelmere, expanding access to Heavy Vehicle Driving Operations training and helping build the skilled workforce Western Australia's transport, freight and logistics industries need.
The purpose-built facility can support training of up to 170 students each year and provides a one-stop shop for training, enabling students to gain multiple licences and industry-required safety competencies, including Heavy Rigid and forklift licences.
Forty students have already commenced training at the Hazelmere site, which features heavy rigid trucks, forklift equipment and practical driving areas for hands-on learning. Training is delivered by North Metropolitan TAFE in partnership with Keen Bros.
The course is free and can open pathways to careers in truck driving, forklift and warehouse operations, delivery and bus driving, and a range of other transport and logistics roles.
With more than 78,000 workers forecast to be needed across Australia's transport, freight and logistics industries by 2029, demand remains strong for the next generation of skilled truckies.
