South Metropolitan TAFE (SM TAFE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the United Kingdom’s City College Plymouth, forming a new international partnership, supported by the State Government, that will strengthen defence industry skills and future AUKUS workforce capability.

The partnership builds on joint State and Commonwealth Government investment in the Defence Industry Skills Centre of Excellence at SM TAFE. Both organisations bring significant experience in maritime and defence‑related training and will collaborate on initiatives that support long‑term naval and defence workforce growth.

Through the MOU, SM TAFE and City College Plymouth will work together to share expertise, explore curriculum alignment and respond to the evolving skills needs of defence‑related industries in Australia and the United Kingdom.

This collaboration reflects growing international interest in Western Australia’s defence training capability, particularly as the State prepares for major workforce demands associated with AUKUS.
