New regulations to protect customers of alternative electricity services

The Alternative Electricity Services (AES) framework prescribing regulations and Code of Practice for On-site Power Supply (OPS) services have been made. The draft Code of Practice for single property networks (SPNs) is now open for consultation.

The Electricity Industry (Alternative Electricity Services) Regulations 2026, and the AES Code of Practice for OPS services have been made.

The AES Framework is extending protections to electricity customers in single property networks (SPNs) and OPS services.

OPS providers will have to register with the Economic Regulation Authority and become a member of the Energy and Water Ombudsman WA Scheme from 1 February 2027.

The draft AES Code of Practice for SPN services is now open for consultation

Consultation closes at 5:00pm (AWST) on 25 September 2026.
