Online Guide to 1994 State Cabinet Records released

The condition of the Swan and Canning rivers, deregulation of trading hours, reform of land tax in WA, juvenile justice, and the role of the Collie coal fields in Western Australia’s energy equation were some of the significant issues discussed by State Cabinet in 1994.

State Cabinet records in the State archives are opened to the public after 30 years and reveal the official decisions that have shaped Western Australia.  Historically significant, the documents reveal key decisions made by the government of the day. A new online guide to the records describes the papers, key issues, and historical context for decisions at the time.

The online guide to State cabinet records covers the issues and subjects discussed at each meeting of State Cabinet of the Court/Cowan Government from 10 January until the end of 1994. The date of the meeting is shown in the Guide, along with a list of each of the agenda items considered by State Cabinet.

The online Guide and State Cabinet agendas can be accessed online at:

Original documents can also be requested and viewed by appointment at the Battye Library for West Australian History in the State Library and State Archives, Perth Cultural Centre. Research support appointments can be booked online at: https://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/state-records-office-of-western-australia/new-research-support-service

State Cabinet records are held by the State Records Office (SRO) at the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport. The SRO is responsible for managing, preserving, and providing the community with an information service about the State’s archives collection.
