The WA public sector will celebrate International Open Data Day, with an inter-agency event on Monday, 9 March 2020.
The Open Data Day event, to be held at 140 William Street, aims to raise awareness of new open data in the emerging digital environment, bringing all agencies together to explore open data collectively and discuss strategic objectives.
Director General Transport, Richard Sellers will open the interactive event.
As part of the day, Department of the Premier and Cabinet (Office of Digital Government) Government Chief Information Officer Greg Italiano and Landgate Chief Executive Graeme Gammie will present on the role of open data in Western Australia.
Agencies will then showcase the possibilities of open data and demonstrate its value.
Government Chief Information Officer Greg Italiano said the Office of Digital Government was developing strategies to build the public sector’s data analytics capabilities; supporting a culture of data sharing and protection across the sector.
“The conversation has moved a great deal since the State Government released the Open Data Policy in 2015. Better use of open data will allow the state government to make better decisions, create new digital services, improve customer experience and build trust in government services,” he said.
Landgate Chief Executive Graeme Gammie said data was an important asset to the Western Australian government and the community it served.
“As the lead agency for implementation of the Open Data Policy, Landgate sees the benefits of sharing data across agencies and in the private sector.
“Data has the potential to drive innovation and create a more efficient and effective government for the benefit of our community.”
Director General Transport Richard Sellers said the event was a great opportunity for agencies to come together to look at ways of sharing open data more widely across the sector.
“By using open data collaboratively, we have the potential to develop innovative solutions, services and tools to better meet the needs of our community,” he said.
