Perth launches first ever Indo-Pacific Space & Earth Conference (IPSEC)

The inaugural 2023 Indo-Pacific Space & Earth Conference (IPSEC) was successfully launched in Perth this week.

Leaders from across the Indo-Pacific and beyond touched down for the 2-day conference, exploring opportunities in space and cross-sector technologies and innovation.

Over 440 leaders from around the world in industry, government and research organisations were in attendance, from sectors such as space, resources, energy, agriculture, defence, advanced manufacturing, robotics and education.

These representatives showcased world-leading space technologies including AI, machine learning, quantum, autonomous systems, remote sensing, robotics and next generation communications.

WA Premier, the Hon. Roger Cook MLA and the Hon. Stephen Dawson MLC, attended the conference announcing a $5 million commitment to support the Perth-based facility Fugro-SpAARC.  

The funding will boost the complex’s capability for space missions and Western Australia’s strong capability to support international space missions from Perth.

As the Southern Hemisphere's global hub for space operations and exploration, Western Australia has a diverse and strong economy with significant opportunities for space technology and data across mining, agriculture, defence, energy and maritime industry sectors with: 

  • Over 100 international and Australian organisations in space and space-related services;
  • World-leading excellence in remote operations, automation and robotics;
  • Is a home to critical space infrastructure, including the Square Kilometer Array Observatory project;
  • Has ideal geographical location for space activities with large arid areas, radio quiet zones and clear skies and;
  • A vibrant and thriving centre for space research, training and education.

As a principal event partner, JTSI hosted an exhibition booth highlighting Western Australia’s space sector alongside investment opportunities in WA.

Representatives from JTSI's space team, Invest and Trade WA and Defence West were in attendance.

A highlight of the booth was the debut of the 'Quokkanaut' which was well received by attendees.
