On 26 January 2001, Senior Constable Donald Everett, Senior Constable Philip Ruland, First Class Constable David Dewar and Constable Gavin Capes lost their lives when Polair 64 crashed while returning from duties at Kiwirrkurra Community.

The traditional Bloody Slow Cup was held on Friday 23 October, bringing the Newman community together through sport and camaraderie ahead of the memorial service the following day.

The 25th anniversary was commemorated in Newman on Saturday 24 October, with the annual Polair 64 Memorial Service, providing an opportunity to honour the four officers and reflect on their enduring legacy.

Twenty-five years on, the memory of Donald, Philip, David and Gavin lives on, and their service will never be forgotten.
