Applications are now open for the 2023 round of the Premier’s Science Fellowship Program.
The Fellowship Program aims to attract leading, and early to mid-career, scientists to Western Australia.
The Western Australian Government is offering $1.5 million support over four years per successful application in the 2023 round for:
- a Premier’s Science Fellow, a distinguished researcher or leader of international prominence ($1 million over four years); and
- a supporting Premier’s Early to Mid-Career Fellow ($0.5 million over four years).
Applications must address a specific Area of Research, of strategic importance to Western Australia. This year, the Area of Research options are:
- Future fuels, and/or next generation energy storage, for decarbonisation.
- Quantum computing; quantum communications; or quantum sensing and measurement.
- Sustainable exploration and discovery, or processing, of critical minerals.
- Advanced mechatronics, for example robotic, autonomous systems, intelligent systems or biomechatronics.
- Bioinformatics and/or computational biology for life sciences challenges.
- Other (in which case the Specific Area of Research nominated for the package must fall under one or more of the following priority areas: energy, environment, food, health, mining, space and technology).
Running since 2003, the Fellowship Program has seen a majority of recipients staying well beyond their four-year appointment continuing to undertake their research in Western Australia, generating real world impacts and advancing research locally.
