Public sector leaders recognised in King’s Birthday Honours List

Eight of our sector’s most outstanding contributors have been awarded the Public Service Medal as part of the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours List.

They have each received this honour in acknowledgement of their sustained excellence and dedication to service.

Dr Margaret Byrne PSM, Executive Director at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions; Helen Gladstones PSM, Principal Policy Officer at the Department of the Premier and Cabinet; and Anthony Sutton PSM, Executive Director at the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation were recognised for their contributions to the Western Australian community.

Dr Paul Armstrong PSM, Deputy Chief Health Officer and Director Communicable Diseases Control at the Department of Health; Dr Tudor Codreanu PSM, Director Disaster Management at the Department of Health; David Etherton PSM, Chief Executive Officer of VenuesWest; Dr Clare Huppatz PSM, Deputy Chief Health Officer at the Department of Health; and Elizabeth MacLeod PSM, Chief Executive East Metropolitan Health Service, received acknowledgement for their commitment to guiding the state through the pandemic.

The medal is awarded twice a year by the Governor General – on Australia Day and the King’s Birthday – as part of the Australian system of honours and awards.

It recognises the exceptional service of employees at local, state and federal levels of government.
