New department name and functions on 1 July .

Following the Premier’s recent announcement of Public Sector Reform, the functions of the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety structure are being moved on 1 July 2025:

  • The Resource and Environmental Regulation Group becomes the Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration.
  • The Energy Policy Group moves to the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification.
  • Our groups and functions including Building, Energy Safety, Service Delivery, Consumer Protection, IRCP Legal Services, WorkSafe and Labour Relations join with the Local Government and Racing, Gaming and Liquor functions to become the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (DLGIRS).

From 1 July 2025, Ms Lanie Chopping takes up the position of Director General of the new DLGIRS.

Chris Shaw takes up the position of Director General of the new Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration from 4 August 2025.

During this transition, all our functions and services remain open for business and contact points remain the same.
