The prestigious Public Service Medal has been awarded to 3 exceptional Western Australians for their hard work and dedication to their communities.

Eligible to employees at local, state and federal levels of government, the award recognises those who have shown outstanding service whether through innovation, leadership or achievement.

The Australia Day honours recipients are:

Anthony Kannis, Managing Director, METRONET: Anthony has been recognised for his outstanding dedication to transport and infrastructure reform in Western Australia, particularly through METRONET, and his commitment to a strengthened economy and development of accessible, well connected, diverse and affordable places for our community.

Dr Mark Sweetingham, Deputy Director General, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development: Mark has played a vital role in ground-breaking scientific research and development of the grains industry in Western Australia. His outstanding public service and dedication to being ethical and solutions-focused has helped drive the establishment of the Australian Centre for Necrotrophic Fungal Pathogens, and research alliances across the government and private sectors.

Anna Maria Wyatt, Director Aboriginal History, Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries: Anna has achieved standout and transformational results through her passion, diligence and commitment to improving and advancing education and health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and Western Australia.
