Minister for Science, the Honourable Stephen Dawson, recently led a delegation of over 40 individuals representing 20 Western Australian organisations to Melbourne to attend AusBiotech 2024.
Australia’s biggest week in biotech ran from Wednesday, 30 October to Friday, 1 November, attracting a record-breaking 1,600 national and international attendees.
The annual conference seeks to explore what’s possible across the biotechnology, medical device and agri-tech sectors. The event also provides an opportunity to promote the WA health and medical life sciences sector to a global audience.
Local organisations including Lixa, iyarn and the Perron Institute were showcased at the WA booth on the conference floor, which was supported by representatives from the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation and the Department of Health, as well as the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub and Life Sciences WA.
WA delegation events included a Team WA dinner held on the first day of the conference to allow the delegation to connect with each other in an informal setting, and a wine activation event featuring local WA wines was hosted at the WA Government stand on day two to showcase our great state and connect with our delegates. A quokka competition was also organised to facilitate connections and interest in our state.
