Western Australia’s innovators have been invited to submit applications for the 2022 WA Innovator of the Year. 

The WA Government program recognises and rewards the State’s brightest talent for creating emerging new products, technology or services in the early stages of development. 

Established in 2006, the program invites applicants to demonstrate how their innovation can benefit the WA economy, community or environment.

Finalists receive business commercialisation training to help take their ideas to the next level, including pitch presentation skills, mentoring, legal and financial support. Finalists will also receive professional photos and a promotional video of their innovation, explaining their idea. 

The program offers six awards, with a total prize pool of $140,000, which assists winners to receive support and expertise to commercialise their innovations. 

The 2022 award categories are: 

  • Overall Innovator of the Year ($70,000 prize); 

  • Rio Tinto Growth Innovation ($20,000 prize); 

  • Rio Tinto Emerging Innovation ($20,000 prize); 

  • Business News ‘Great for the State’ Award ($10,000 prize); 

  • Wesfarmers Wellbeing Award ($10,000 prize); and 

  • Woodside Energy Award ($10,000 prize); 

 

The WA Innovator of the Year program is funded under the $16.7M New Industries Fund and supported by Principal Sponsor Rio Tinto. 

 Program sponsors include Woodside Energy, Wesfarmers, Business News, Wrays, Griffith Hack, Biodesign Australia, CERI, Moore Australia, Murfett Legal and PwC. 

Applications for the WA Innovator of the Year program close on Tuesday May 31, 2022 at 11am AWST.
