Perth Detectives have charged a man following a serious assault in Northbridge on Thursday, 5 February
2026.

About 11.15pm, it is alleged the man confronted a male victim, who was unknown to him, on James Street near Nick’s Lane. It is further alleged, the man assaulted the victim, rendering him unconscious, before stealing his property and fleeing the scene on foot.

Bystanders provided assistance to the victim until St John WA paramedics arrived. The victim was conveyed to Royal Perth Hospital for medical treatment of serious injuries.

Detectives are working to confirm the identity of the victim, who is believed to be aged in his fifties.

Police located the alleged offender a short time later on William Street in the Perth CBD, where he was arrested and taken into custody.

A 44-year-old Spearwood man has been charged with the following offences:

• 1 x Unlawful act or omission with intent to harm (endangering life, health or safety of any person)
• 1 x Stealing
• 1 x Give false personal details to police
• 1 x Possess prohibited drug

His bail was refused and he is next due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday, 6 February 2026.
