Ensuring the entire public sector is focused on delivering the government’s 6 priorities for the state was the topic of today’s SES Spotlight: The Vision Edition.

Around 500 Senior Executive Service (SES) members heard first hand from the Premier on the government’s agenda and the expectations of the sector to deliver for Western Australians over the next 4 years.

The government’s 6 priorities through to 2029 are diversifying the economy, healthcare, housing, safe and inclusive communities, the environment, and infrastructure and services.

“Delivering on these priorities requires all of us working in sync, side by side, with a shared purpose,” the Premier said.

After detailing the challenges and opportunities of each priority, the Premier identified 4 factors critical for the sector:

  • Focus: Steadfastly focusing on the priorities to make progress for WA
  • Capability: Making sure the workforce is skilled and capable to deliver
  • Leadership: Leading the delivery of the government’s vision rests with the SES
  • Sense of urgency: Joining up in the sector to purposefully and deliberately deliver on the priorities

The Premier closed by thanking SES members for their expertise, dedication and commitment.

“The government not only values your work but depends on it, and you will be integral to unlocking this next phase,” he said.

Following the Premier’s address attendees heard from ministers John Carey, Stephen Dawson and Meredith Hammat who shared their reflections and how the priorities give the sector clear focus and deliverables.

They spoke about what makes for an effective relationship between a minister and their agency; and their desire for frank and fearless advice from the SES.

Thanks to everyone for attending this important event that provides a roadmap for the next 4 years.
