The State Government has announced it is developing a comprehensive workforce strategy to ensure WA has a sustainable pipeline of skilled and productive workers for the State’s priority industries.

The WA Workforce Strategy (Strategy) will give key stakeholders across WA’s priority industries a shared understanding of the State’s future workforce needs and outline the short, medium and long-term levers that support the development of a strong, sustainable, resilient and future-ready workforce.

The priority industry areas align with the State Government’s Our priorities for Government 2025-2029 roadmap and include the defence industry, clean energy, building and construction, advanced manufacturing, care and tourism and hospitality.

The Strategy will be a blueprint for the State Government, guiding how it prioritises policy levers that will have the greatest impact on building the workforce needed to support WA’s economic diversification agenda.

The Strategy will help businesses access the workers they need to take advantage of opportunities as they arise, adapt to changing technologies and be resilient to future workforce challenges.

Industry will play a leading role in shaping the Strategy, providing input on the challenges and opportunities that exist in their industry and the levers they believe will have the greatest impact on strengthening their industry’s workforce.

Stakeholders are invited to contribute their insights through a short questionnaire.

Consultation closes on Thursday 30 April 2026.
