Kununurra Police have charged a juvenile following a stolen motor vehicle incident in Kununurra on Sunday, 1 November 2026.
About 9.30pm, police sighted a stolen white Toyota Hiace van being driven along Victoria Highway. The van had earlier been reported stolen following a burglary at a home on Pine Court.
The van was monitored by police via drone as it travelled back towards Kununurra, where it will be alleged it was driven in a dangerous and erratic manner, including at times on the wrong side of the road, across grass verges, footpaths and public parks, and performed burnouts at several locations.
Multiple efforts to stop the vehicle, including the deployment of tyre deflation devices, were unsuccessful.
About 10.15pm, the van was involved in a low-speed collision with a marked police vehicle on Casuarina Way, bringing the van to a stop.
The driver, who was the sole occupant, was arrested and taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported.
The 14-year-old male has been charged with:
• 1 x No Authority to Drive (Never Held)
• 1 x Endangering Life, Health or Safety of a Person
• 1 x Steal Motor Vehicle
He appeared before the Kununurra Children’s Court on 2 November 2026 and was bailed to reappear on 16 November 2026.
Inquiries regarding the burglary remain ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au or by calling 1800 333 000. Reports can be made anonymously.
