Perth Detectives have charged a man following an incident that began in Lexia on Friday, 7 November 2025.
About 10.45pm, police were alerted by an ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) activation of an allegedly stolen silver Mercedes-Benz station sedan travelling west along The Promenade near Tonkin Highway.
A Police Airwing aircraft located and monitored the vehicle as it continued southbound on Tonkin highway. It will be alleged the driver reached speeds in excess of 200km/h without headlights illuminated, travelling through several suburbs.
The Mercedes was later observed driving along Orrong Road when it crossed onto the incorrect side of the road and collided with a Toyota CH-R at the intersection of Alexander Road before coming to rest against a brick wall.
It will be alleged the driver fled the scene on foot but was tracked by Airwing officers, who directed ground units to his location nearby on Surrey Road where he was arrested and taken into custody.
The 30-year-old male driver of the Toyota did not sustain any serious injuries as a result of the crash.
A 29-year-old Byford man has been charged with:
• x1 Steal Motor Vehicle and Drive Recklessly
• x1 Drove with Forged, Replica of False License Plate
• x1 Driver Fail to Stop – Property Damage
• x1 Possess Stolen or Unlawfully Obtained Property
The man’s bail was refused and he is due to appear before the Northbridge Magistrates Court on Saturday, 8 November 2025.
