Supercharging data linkage: a healthy expansion to PeopleWA

News story
PeopleWA to enable new analytical insights through added vocational, development and health data.
Last updated:

The Office of Digital Government has integrated six new datasets into PeopleWA and expanded its data coverage for three existing WA Health datasets. This expansion dramatically boosts PeopleWA’s ability to support Western Australia's research and government sectors.

PeopleWA is a linked data asset offering a powerful tool for research, government policy formulation and service improvement.

By connecting multiple sources of information through data linkage, PeopleWA creates richer and more comprehensive insights. These insights support approved users to address the most complex social, health, environmental and economic issues facing the State.

Administered by the Office of Digital Government, in partnership with the Department of Health, PeopleWA holds linked datasets from the departments of Communities, Education, Health, Justice (including Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages) and the Western Australia Police Force.

New Datasets:

  • Department of Training and Workforce Development:
    • Vocational Education and Training Enrolments – includes data from WA TAFEs, publicly funded private organisations, the WA Academy of Performing Arts and the Department of Justice (in relation to education delivered to prisoners).
    • Apprenticeship and Traineeship Contracts – includes data on all apprenticeship contracts in WA.
  • Department of Education (Commonwealth):
    • Australian Early Development Census Data - measures children’s development across five domains as they enter their first year of full-time school.
  • Department of Health:
    • Western Australian Cancer Registry.
    • Western Australian Register of Developmental Anomalies.
    • Western Australian Notifiable Infectious Disease Database.

Expanded WA Department of Health Datasets:

  • Hospital Morbidity Data Collection – now includes private hospital data.
  • Emergency Department Data Collection – now includes an additional variable.
  • Midwives Notification System – over 50 additional variables have been added.
