The Australia China Natural Gas Technology Partnership Fund, together with the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, is hosting a virtual seminar in Perth, Western Australia.

The Fund supports activities aimed at establishing long-term partnerships within the energy sector that create positive economic outcomes, increase knowledge and skills and enhance the relationship between Australia and China.

The seminar will take place on Monday, 21 February 2022 from 9.00am to 10.30am (AWST).

A panel of government and industry leaders from Australia and China will share their insight on the future role of LNG.

Chris Clark
Deputy Director General
Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation

Chris is the Deputy Director General, Resources and Project Facilitation with the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation. 

This role entails facilitating and assisting the development of State significant projects in areas ranging from the resources and oil and gas sector through to agriculture and tourism. 

Chris has 30 years’ experience working in the public sectors across a range of different service areas.

 

 

Eric May

Professor Eric May
Future Energy Exports Cooperative Research Centre

Eric May is Managing Director of the Future Energy Exports Cooperative Research Centre (FEnEx CRC) and was named the 2021 Western Australian Scientist of the Year. His research team works closely with industry, conducting projects in hydrogen liquefaction, LNG production, gas separations, CCS and fluid property prediction. Eric was awarded the Malcolm McIntosh Prize for Physical Scientist of the Year as part of the 2012 Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science.

In 2017, he co-established Gas Capture Technologies Pty Ltd, a spin-out company for patented technologies to capture methane from coal mines, land-fill gas and other sources. Launched in 2020, the FEnEx CRC brings together 28 industry, government and university partners with resources of $163 million to conduct industrial-scale research that supports LNG and Hydrogen exports from Australia.

 

David Lawrence
General Manager of Commodities and International Branch, Onshore Resources Division, Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources

Mr Lawrence has over 20 years’ experience in industry, innovation and resources policy.

He is the General Manager for Onshore Minerals & Energy at the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources, which includes responsibility for onshore gas, major commodities (coal, iron ore) and international strategy and engagement.

Previously, Mr Lawrence had policy responsibility for the Industry Growth Centres Initiative, SME Export Hubs and Innovation Precincts. Earlier in his career, he worked on industry policy issues relating to food manufacturing, steel and metal smelting, and defence industry. Mr Lawrence has a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) and a Masters of Arts (International Relations) both from Monash University.

 

Kristine Leo
Country Chair China
Woodside Energy Australia Asia Holdings Pte Ltd

Kristine Leo is the Country Chair and Chief Representative for China and is accountable for the Beijing Representative Office and all Woodside activities in the Region, including offices in Qingdao, Dalian, Penglai, Zhuhai, Tianjin, Nantong, Qidong and Changxing.

Kristine has been with Woodside Energy since 2010, after 23 years in Australian Government roles in the Northern Territory and Western Australia. She has resided in China since 2018 in the role of Country Chair. The principle focus of Kristine’s current business activities is to facilitate and support the marketing of Woodside’s short, mid and long-term LNG portfolio volumes (including the North West Shelf, Pluto, Scarborough, Wheatstone assets) and manage relationships with Woodside’s regional stakeholders, customers and government representatives. Kristine and the Woodside team also support all Woodside activities in the region including construction projects, exploration, development, technology, new energy, and growth opportunities.

Kristine holds a Master’s in Leadership and Management, a Bachelor of Investigations, Graduate Certificates in Applied Management, Public Sector Management and Emergency Management. She is a graduate of the FBI Leaders in Counter Terrorism Course and has been a fellow at the Australian Institute of Police Management. She has recently graduated from the Australian Institute of Company Directors

 

Rich Jones
General Manager Browse & NWS
Shell Australia

Rich is a people focused leader with 25 years international experience safely exploring and leading upstream / midstream organizations operating in near-field, deep-water and frontier provinces.

After studying Geology and Economics and completing a PhD at Keele University in England, Rich worked in a range of exploration roles in Europe, Asia and Australia gaining experience leading major exploration campaigns from both a technical and management perspective. Prior to his current role, Rich led the Shell Australia exploration team which delivered the Bratwurst discovery in the Browse Basin in 2019.  In his current role as the General Manager for Shell’s Browse and North West Shelf Non-Operated Ventures, he leads a multi-disciplinary team to drive both the strategic development of the Browse Project and the on-going operations of the North West Shelf.  

Rich brings to the table a wealth of knowledge in the field of exploration along with strategic insights into the oil and gas sector’s future through the energy transition.

Research Professor and Deputy President of the Institute of Energy, Beijing University
