The Skills Academy has officially started to be built, a big step towards delivering a comprehensive suite of courses tailored specifically for the WA public sector.
This brand new one sector approach to training for the public service workforce is being led and managed by the Commission for the government and sector.
The Commission is being joined by KPMG Australia Technology Solutions Pty Limited as a contracted learning services provider to help it deliver this significant initiative. KPMG brings a track record of delivering managed learning services at scale, and the appointment follows an open and competitive tender process.
Building The Skills Academy over the next 12 months involves developing 120 courses, establishing a technology platform and setting up a service centre in Perth.
Already more than 140 subject matter experts from the sector have been involved in identifying vital information and resources, helping to ensure courses will be relevant and impactful when rolled out.
The first courses will be available to in-scope staff in 56 participating agencies in the first quarter of 2026.
This will be the next milestone in realising this new centralised approach to managing and delivering foundational training for public service staff so they have the core skills needed now and into the future to deliver government services across the state.
