The Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration (DMPE) is inviting expressions of interest from students wishing to undertake a paid, part-time work placement at the department to gain experience in environmental assessments in our Resource and Environmental Compliance Division.
The environmental science intern program is for university students completing their final year studying for a Bachelor of Science.
The opportunity offers:
- training and experience in department processes undertaken to assess environmental applications lodged under relevant legislation;
- understanding key information required by the department to assess an application and make a decision;
- internal training, development and mentoring;
- development of report writing and analysis skills;
- gaining an understanding of environmental approvals and compliance; and
- opportunities to develop professional networks.
Student environmental intern program details
Applications from all Bachelor of Science students are encouraged, with preference given to those studying Environmental Science. The placement will be completed alongside study.
There are three opportunities available, joining either our Petroleum and Energy Compliance branch or our Mine Closure and Environmental Services branch, undertaking environmental management including assessments and compliance.
- Time commitment: 3 days per week
- Length of internship: A minimum of six months, with the opportunity to extend until 30 June 2027
- Work location: Mineral House, East Perth
- Renumeration: $79,604 per annum (pro rata), equivalent to $47,762 per annum for a 3-day-per-week arrangement.
