Western Australia has taken a significant step towards developing its space industry, with Perth-based Space Angel Pty Ltd announced as the recipient of the Spaceport Establishment Support Grant.

The company will receive $1.75 million in funding through an open and competitive grants process and will provide matching investment to support the project.

The funding will enable Space Angel to undertake critical site assessments required for planning and regulatory approvals, as well as develop a business case for proposed spaceport locations in Western Australia.

Spaceports are specialised facilities used for the launching, landing, testing and maintenance of spacecraft and rockets. The assessments and planning work supported by the grant are intended to help determine suitable locations and establish the requirements for future spaceport development in the State.

The grant forms part of a broader initiative to accelerate the growth of Western Australia's space industry and strengthen the State's capabilities in the sector.

In parallel with the grant program, the State Government is undertaking a feasibility study to identify additional locations that may be suitable for future spaceport development.

The announcement reflects ongoing efforts to support the growth of emerging industries, attract investment and create skilled employment opportunities in areas where Western Australia has existing competitive strengths.

The global space launch services market is currently valued at more than US$15 billion and is expected to continue growing, creating new opportunities for businesses and industry participants across the space sector.

Western Australia is well positioned to capitalise on this growth through its geographic advantages, established aerospace capabilities and growing network of space industry stakeholders.
