Western Australia celebrates brightest minds at the 2025 WA Innovators of the Year Awards

Congratulations to the winners of Western Australia's Innovator of the Year (WAIOTY) 2025 Awards Program!

This year saw a record high of 130 applications submitted to the WAIOTY Awards Program, as well as the introduction of a new category, the YEA WA Young Innovators of the Year Award.

Sponsored by the Young Entrepreneurs Academy of WA (YEA), the new category celebrates the creativity and innovation of high school-aged entrepreneurs who are shaping the State’s future.

The nine winners and two runners-up will share in a prize pool of more than $280,000.

Meet the winners of the 2025 WA Innovators of the Year:

  • Rio Tinto Emerging Innovation Category winner: ProGenis Pharmaceuticals, for PGP-011, anew RNA treatment for insulin resistance
  • Rio Tinto Emerging Innovation Category runner-up: Acculaser, for their precision guided drilling for smarter faster underground operations
  • Rio Tinto Growth Innovation Category winner: Greenroom Robotics for GAMA - Greenroom Advanced Maritime Autonomy
  • Rio Tinto Growth Innovation Category runner-up: Hayes Recycling - recycling the unrecyclable: Western Australia’s subsea umbilical, riser and flowlines
  • Wesfarmers Wellbeing Platinum Award winner: Emyria Ltd for the development of an advanced therapeutic model for treatment-resistant post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Woodside Energy Platinum Award for Energy Innovation winner: Clear Carbon Pty Ltd for the development of intelligent, real-time emissions automation for air, water and land
  • Business News ‘Great for the State’ Platinum Award winner: SafeStyle Pty Ltd for their SafeStyle protective eyewear - from the worksite to the weekend
  • WA Government Innovators of the Year Award winner: ChemCentre (Forensic Science Laboratory) and PathWest (Forensic Biology) for creating a new forensic capability in WA by using the human hair shaft proteome for protein-based human identification
  • YEA WA Young Innovators of the Year Award winner: Medi Manage (Automated Pill Dispenser) for their SMART Bluetooth-enabled pill dispenser and mobile app that automates medication routines for safe, accurate and timely dosing.

Finalists participated in the Accelerator Program, gaining access to mentoring, workshops, and hands-on training in areas such as intellectual property, wellness, pitching and media. They also receive professional photography and video content to help promote their innovations.

Western Australian Treasury Corporation and Xplorate Pacific were also awarded a scholarship to attend a program with the Centre of Entrepreneurial Research and Innovation (CERI).
