Change of name from WEM Rules to ESM Rules

Since this web page was published, the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) Rules have been renamed the Electricity System and Market (ESM) Rules, and the Electricity Industry (Wholesale Electricity Market) Regulations 2004 (WEM Regulations) have been renamed the Electricity Industry (Electricity System and Market) Regulations 2004 (ESM Regulations). Changes have not been made to this web page to reflect this updated name.

Exposure Draft 1 of the Tranche 6 WEM Amending Rules includes draft amendments relating to: 

  • Scheduling Day processes and STEM Obligations 

  • Outage quantity calculations 

  • Reserve Capacity Mechanism – Certification and Network Access Quantities 

  • Non-Co-optimised Essential System Services (NCESS) – Submission of requests to the Coordinator of Energy 

  • Supplementary Essential System Services (SESSM) – Market Participant Obligations 

  • Reporting on the effectiveness of the market 

A second exposure draft for Tranche 6, which will contain further proposed changes to the WEM Rules, is expected to be published for consultation in August 2022.
