Financial support for regional nursing students
The Nurses Stipend and Travel Allowance (NSTA) provides financial support for Diploma of Nursing students who must travel long distances to complete mandatory clinical placements as part of their training.
Eligibility information
Diploma of Nursing students are eligible for the NSTA if they are:
- enrolled into HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing (or its predecessor) with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) funded by the Department of Training and Workforce Development, for the period that they are claiming NSTA; and
- residing outside of the Perth Metropolitan area; and
- required to travel outside of their local area to attend mandatory clinical placements; and
- an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
How to claim
Applications for the NSTA should be submitted online via the NSTA claim form – start a new claim.
The NSTA provides eligible Diploma of Nursing students with assistance to meet travel costs, and an allowance to assist them to meet the costs associated with living away from home to attend placements.
Assistance is available for all placements completed from 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2025.
