Technological change and evolving consumer preferences are rapidly transforming the landscape in which electricity network businesses operate. Against this backdrop, the Electricity Networks Access Code 2004 (Access Code) has remained relatively unchanged since its inception.
Changes to the Access Code are now required to support the delivery of the Energy Transformation Strategy and each of its three work streams:
- Distributed Energy Resources;
- Foundation Regulatory Frameworks; and
- Whole of System Planning.
Other changes to the Access Code under consideration will provide regulatory certainty and streamline access arrangement processes for Western Power and the Economic Regulation Authority.
The package of proposed amendments will be progressed to the Minister for Energy for approval to be published in the Government Gazette.
