$855,000 funding assists local arts to grow
- $855,000 grants to arts development projects across Western Australia
- Funding to help ensure a vibrant arts scene in WA
The State Government has provided grants of $855,000 for arts development projects across Western Australia, including dance works, theatre performances and a photography exhibition.
Culture and the Arts Minister John Day said the funded projects represented a range of activities from the creation of new works, the development of new skills and artistic collaborations.
"It's important the State Government funds projects such as these to ensure WA has a vibrant arts and cultural community," Mr Day said.
"The projects cover a range of art forms and include a visual arts project called The Cars That Ate Perth featuring the work of 10 WA artists; a photographic exhibition by Eva Fernandez at the Midland Railway Workshop; and a tour by Sensorium Theatre to four schools.
"In addition, WA writer/artist Justin Randall will receive funding for the publication and promotion of a new graphic novel, while the Warakurna Artists Aboriginal Corporation will be funded for a project involving six art centres in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands - Maruku Arts and Crafts, Tjanpi Desert Weavers, Tjarlirli Art, Papulankutja Artists, Kayili Artists and Warakurna Artists."
All applications to the Arts Development Grant program are peer assessed by members of the sector, including practising artists, arts managers and individuals with relevant knowledge and experience.
