'Best and brightest' students win $1,000

Western Australia's 'best and brightest' Year 12 public school students have been recognised for their achievements.

Education Minister Liz Constable today congratulated 167 Year 12 students who have been awarded the State Government's $1,000 Best and Brightest Prize.

Now in its fourth year, the prize rewards the most outstanding academic and vocational students in WA public schools.

"I applaud the efforts of all our Year 12 students who completed secondary studies this year - especially those recognised today," Dr Constable said.

"These students are among the highest achievers in our Government schools and are another example of the strength of our public education system.

"They deserve to be acknowledged for their many hours of commitment over several years.
 

"I also want to acknowledge and thank the people behind each of these students - the dedicated principal, the inspiring teacher and the supportive family."

To be eligible for the prize, students must meet Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) requirements for secondary graduation.

TEE students must complete a minimum of four Year 12 subjects/WACE courses and achieve a minimum of three A grades and one B grade.

Wholly school assessed vocation education and training students must complete a minimum of four Year 12 WSA subjects/WACE courses and achieve a minimum of three A grades and one B grade or complete a minimum of three A grades.
