The AFL Masters WA - Broome Carnival kicks-off next Saturday for a week-long festival of veterans' football.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said it was the first time players from several teams across the State would combine to play against the Broome side in a 'best of three' competition.

"The Kimberley region enjoys a strong football following with fans travelling long distances to catch a game, so organisers are expecting a warm welcome in Broome this week," Dr Hames.

"Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Western Australia's AFL Masters offers a chance for over 35s to enjoy a friendly, semi-competitive game of footy against players of a similar age.

"The festival will also offer something for up-and-coming players with AFL star Troy Cook - formerly with the Sydney Swans and Fremantle Dockers, who now works with the David Wirrpanda Foundation - conducting football clinics for kids."

Dr Hames said the State Government was a proud sponsor of the AFL Masters WA - Broome Carnival through Eventscorp's Regional Events Scheme, funded by Royalties for Regions.

"Local events boost tourism, inspire the local community and attract media coverage for the region, and the Government is pleased to support the Broome Carnival."

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said it was wonderful to see the event being held in Broome, thanks to the Government's commitment to regional events.

"With a significant $40million in Royalties for Regions funding dedicated to events, communities State-wide are benefiting socially and economically," Mr Grylls said.

"Events bring added excitement and vibrancy to towns, and local businesses are given a boost thanks to increased visitation, all of which are great outcomes for regional development."
