Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the Action Sports Games would feature three action-packed activity zones, including skate/BMX, freestyle motocross, and the International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) World Cup Tour.

"As a local resident, I'm thrilled that more than 50 competitors from 24 countries will be competing in the world cup championships right here in Mandurah," he said.

Current world IWWF champions attending include Freddy Krueger and Harley Clifford, as well as world champion female waterski jumper, Jacinta Carroll and female wakeboard champion, Raimi Merritt.

"More than 40 athletes from across Australia will also compete in skateboarding, BMX riding and freestyle motocross exhibitions, providing adrenalin pumping action for all spectators."

The Action Sports Games, proudly supported by the State Government through Tourism WA's Regional Events Program funded by Royalties for Regions, coincides with the Channel Seven Mandurah Crab Fest also on this weekend.

"I understand more than 100,000 people are expected to attend both events, so that speaks volumes about the attraction and vibrancy of the experiences on offer," Dr Hames said.

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said tourism was a vital industry for regional Western Australia.

"Regional initiatives like this help redefine the traditional tourist season and enable the local community to add its own unique flavour to events," Mr Redman said.

"They bring economic opportunities to local communities and promote a sense of ownership among regional communities, and Royalties for Regions helps make that happen."
