Alkimos disability services consolidate in Jindalee

• Jindalee now offers Local Area Coordination services formerly offered from the Joondalup and Yanchep offices

• District office set to support future population growth in the Alkimos area

• Jindalee team provides support to more than 500 people with disability 

The State Government is now delivering disability services for people living in Perth's outer northern suburbs and beyond from Jindalee.

Disability Services Minister Helen Morton today officially opened new office premises which will serve the Alkimos Local Area Coordination (LAC) district, which extends from Quinns Rocks to Jurien Bay and includes the Wanneroo, Chittering, Gingin and Dandaragan local government areas.

"The Alkimos team of 14 supports more than 500 people with disability and their families to plan, organise and access support and services to meet their individual needs and aspirations," Mrs Morton said.

"Because of the positive working relationships with the people they support, local area co-ordinators have a critical role in helping families achieve significant outcomes.

"Over the 28 years the Disability Services Commission has been providing LAC services, LACs have been powerful advocates for thousands of West Australians and have worked more widely to make communities more inclusive and welcoming."

The Minister said the Alkimos district was established in July 2011 in response to the rapid population growth in Perth's northern metropolitan regions.

"Consistent with continuing population growth, it is anticipated the Alkimos district will also experience an increase in the number of people with disability and their families accessing LAC support over the coming years," she said.

"It is clear this LAC district office will have an important and growing responsibility as we navigate the future of disability service provision in Western Australia."
