Jamin Wu from Perth Modern School and Robert Rubery from Applecross Senior High School have taken top honours at the 2014 secondary education awards.

Jamin won the Beazley Medal: WA Certificate of Education for the highest scaled score across five courses in Year 12. Robert has been awarded the Beazley Medal: Vocational Education and Training (VET) for his strong performance in a VET program.

Education Minister Peter Collier said a Beazley Medal was the greatest honour a senior secondary student could receive and was the culmination of a lot of hard work and dedication.

"It's important to remember that these students have not just done well this year. They have shown a commitment to their education over many years, and have clearly had strong support from their teachers and families," Mr Collier said.

"I congratulate Jamin and Robert on this outstanding achievement."

At just 16 years and four months old when he sat the exams in November, Jamin is one of the youngest students to win the medal in the award's 30-year history.

Jamin won a general exhibition, course exhibition in Japanese: Second Language, certificate of distinction in Chemistry, Japanese: Second Language and Physics and a certificate of commendation.

Robert's achievements included a certificate of commendation, Certificate IV in Information Technology Networking, Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology, Certificate II in Sport and Recreation and Certificate I in Sport and Recreation.

The Minister congratulated all students who completed their secondary education this year.

The schools with the highest number of general exhibition winners were Hale School (7), Perth Modern School (6) and Christ Church Grammar School (6).
