Aubin Grove Station reaches milestone
- $80m Aubin Grove project reaches new milestone
Tender for construction to be released today
$57m station will be located between Kwinana and Cockburn Central stations
The development of Aubin Grove Station moved a step closer today with the release of a tender for the project's construction.
Transport Minister Dean Nalder said progress on the station - which will be built on the Mandurah Line between Kwinana and Cockburn Central stations - had kicked into high gear.
"The Public Transport Authority recently completed the purchase of the land on which it will build the $57million station," Mr Nalder said.
"This key piece of public transport infrastructure reflects the massive population growth in the area, with more than 3,900 boardings expected at the station on an average weekday."
Construction of the station will begin in 2015 with completion scheduled for late 2016.
"The total budget for this project also includes $23million for the purchase of two new three-car trains," the Minister said.
"We expect the convenience of the new station will make public transport an even more attractive option for people living in southern suburbs like Aubin Grove, Atwell, Hammond Park, Mandogalup and Wandi. The station will also be serviced by six new bus feeder services, which I hope will encourage more commuters to leave their cars at home."
Aubin Grove will be connected to existing shared access pathways on both sides of the freeway via two footbridges, which will provide access for the hundreds of passengers who will walk and cycle to the station. Bicycle facilities will also be incorporated into the final design.
"Passengers who do wish to drive to the station will have access to one of the largest car parks on the Transperth network, with 2,000 bays and a dedicated drop-off area," Mr Nalder said.
A community information session will take place on Tuesday, July 22 from 6.30pm at the Aubin Grove Community Facility.
