Big Day Out is in
Environment Minister Donna Faragher has given the green light for the Big Day Out to be held at the Claremont Showgrounds on February 1.
The Minister set conditions on the popular music festival following Department of Environment and Conservation approval under environmental noise regulations.
"I'm happy to announce that the Big Day Out will be part of the State's 2009 festival calendar," Mrs Faragher said.
"I hope everyone who attends this event has a great time and I urge everyone to respect the surrounding community when arriving at and leaving the venue."
The approval follows an application from the event's promoters after the Claremont Town Council initially rejected the concert.
"In setting the Ministerial conditions, I considered the festival could be approved within the guidelines and spirit of Claremont Council's Concert Approval Matrix that covers such events," the Minister said.
"The sound levels imposed in these conditions are in line with those set in the past two years.
"While I accept that the Big Day Out is a challenging event to manage with respect to noise, the conditions are reasonable and the promoters must comply with them."
