Blackmore and Girrawheen primary schools reborn at Hudson Park
The merging of Blackmore and Girrawheen primary schools was finalised today when Education Minister Liz Constable officially opened the newly-named and refurbished Hudson Park Primary School.
Dr Constable said the former Girrawheen Primary School had been totally rejuvenated with a $5.12million makeover, including a new early childhood block, the extension and refurbishment of the car park, new toilets for students and staff, a new roof, carpets and painting.
In addition, the school received a new undercover area with music room, an art and craft room and an administration upgrade.
"These works have transformed the school and given the students, staff and school community a real boost," she said.
"The new undercover area, which will be enclosed later this year, provides an all-weather place where the whole school can get together.
"There is also a modern new child health clinic here on site, allowing parents to check on the health and wellbeing of younger children while dropping their older children at school."
The Minister acknowledged former principal Doug Grasso, who recently retired, for his vision and leadership in bringing the two school communities together.
