Boddington Health Centre opening

Boddington residents now have access to better health facilities thanks to a $486,000 investment from the State Government's Royalties for Regions' Country Local Government Fund, which has contributed to the construction the new $2.7million Boddington Heath Centre.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said the new Boddington Health Centre included two components, the Medical area and the Home and Community Care area, which provided better facilities and increased health services for the community.

"The Medical area includes five consulting rooms, a dental surgery, pathology room, and a treatment room. The Home and Community care area is to cater for the aged and has two fully-assist bathrooms and an activity room," Mr Grylls said.

The new building will begin operating with two doctors and - with capacity for a third - means more patients are able to be accepted.

The Minister said the health centre would further strengthen Boddington's position as a vibrant sub regional centre that can adequately support the health needs of its growing population with the expansion of the Boddington Gold Mine.

"The new health centre means patients can expect improved quality and accessibility of services and facilities to directly benefit existing and new residents," he said.

Mr Grylls said the medical centre was built in an ideal location, alongside the Boddington District Hospital with a covered walkway joining the two buildings.

"The development will see all clinical services in Boddington located in the one precinct, with doctors close to the hospital to service emergencies and patients," he said.

Additionally, a $136,000 Royalties for Regions Regional Grants Scheme funded retirement village to include 40 independent living units was being developed adjacent to the health centre and stage one infrastructure, including roads, power and water to enable 11 of the 40 units to be built, had been completed.

"The Country Local Government Fund is another example of Royalties for Regions providing extra funds for developing new facilities for the community," the Minister said.
