One of Australia's most recognised sports cars will take centre stage next week at the five-day Monaro Nationals event in Busselton.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the Holden Monaro was Australia's first specially-built performance car and hundreds of enthusiasts from across Australia would descend on Busselton to celebrate the unique motor vehicle.

"This is the seventh time the Monaro Nationals have been held, but the first time the event has been hosted in Western Australia," he said.

"More than 100 Monaros from across Australia will visit the South-West to take part in this event.

"The main focus will be the 'Show and Shine' car show on Saturday, before owners take these much-loved vehicles to the streets for Sunday's 'cruise' through Dunsborough and Margaret River."

Dr Hames said the State Government was a proud sponsor of the Monaro Nationals through Eventscorp's Regional Events Scheme, which was funded by Royalties for Regions.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said he was delighted to see national events being hosted in regional WA.

"In the past two years, the Regional Events Scheme has supported more than 100 events. Much is happening across the State and I encourage everyone to visit the regions and enjoy some memorable and extraordinary experiences," Mr Grylls said.

"Events bring many benefits to communities.  Socially, they bring communities together and provide some added excitement and, economically, increased visitation boosts local coffers."
