Camp out to encourage new campers into parks
Community encouraged to try camping in a safe and supportive environment
Camping equipment can be provided to new campers
Exploring the great outdoors is now more accessible thanks to the Great Pemberton Camp Out, an exciting initiative encouraging new and inexperienced campers to venture into Western Australia's national parks on November 20.
Environment Minister Albert Jacob said that Pemberton Discovery Tours/WA Wilderness, the Department of Parks and Wildlife and Nature Play WA were giving people the opportunity to have a go at camping in a supportive and encouraging environment.
"The Great Pemberton Camp Out provides the chance to sleep among the karri trees in Warren National Park, get tips on how to get started with camping, and mix with other beginner campers," Mr Jacob said.
"The Pemberton area is rich in natural attractions and people will be able to explore the beautiful surrounds of Warren National Park, go bushwalking, swimming and fishing, or simply sit and take in the grandeur of the forest."
The Minister said that in an increasingly urbanised society, spending time in nature was wonderful for children, and the Great Pemberton Camp Out would give kids a chance to get grubby and create their own games in the bush.
"There will also be a range of activities on offer through Pemberton Discovery Tours/WA Wilderness and people lacking camping equipment should not be put off," he said.
"The tents are roomy with comfortable stretchers and a range of camping equipment is available for hire. This is a great opportunity for people to have a hassle-free camping experience without the cost of buying their own gear."
The Liberal National Government is committed to encouraging families into national parks and has invested $21.05 million over four years in the Parks for People initiative funded by Royalties for Regions.
