A state-of-the-art building which will welcome year 7 students to Cape Naturaliste College in 2015, was officially opened today.

Education Minister Peter Collier said the new building, funded by the State Government's Royalties for Regions program, provided purpose-built, modern classrooms and facilities.

The college is set to grow to just over 650 students next year with year 7 students.

"The college prides itself on its warm and welcoming environment, which will help the year 7 students find their places at their new secondary school," Mr Collier said.

The new building is one of many to cater for the influx of year 7s next year.

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said the Royalties for Regions year 7 relocation project would provide better educational opportunities for country students.

"The new building at Cape Naturaliste College will give year 7 students the facilities they need to tackle more demanding educational concepts and ideas," Mr Redman said.

"Every child has the right to quality education and I am pleased to see Royalties for Regions support our rural students."

The new building has five classrooms, an outdoor activity area, staff study area, and staff and student toilets. There is also a car park, hard courts and landscaping.
