A 13.5ha site, within walking distance to Broome's world-famous Cable Beach, is being released for development as a caravan park under a partnership between the Shire of Broome and the State Government, through Tourism WA.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said Broome attracted about 38,000 caravan and camping visitors each year and, during peak season, caravan parks and camping grounds were overflowing with holiday makers.

"Caravan and camping holidays are very popular in the State's north-west with 35 per cent of international visitors to Broome using caravan or camping accommodation at some point during their stay," Dr Hames said.

"Recent Tourism WA research revealed a need for additional caravan parks in several areas across the State, including Broome.

"The Sanctuary Road Caravan Park development, once completed, will help alleviate accommodation issues at the popular holiday destination, as well as provide the region with an important piece of tourism infrastructure."

The Minister said expressions of interest opened on November 13, 2012.

"Caravan park operators and investors with the necessary skills, design experience and financial resources to deliver a sustainable and functional caravan park are encouraged to make a submission," he said.

"The site is part of the Government's Landbank program which means all the relevant due diligence is carried out before it is released on the market."
