Families are being encouraged to enjoy the great outdoors in some of the State's magnificent national parks on Father's Day, with free entry available for all Nature Play WA passport holders.

Environment Minister Albert Jacob and Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies today announced car entry fees would be waived at 30 Western Australian national parks this Sunday for children with valid Nature Play passports.

"This is a wonderful State Government initiative which highlights the many benefits for people when they visit our spectacular national parks and explore nature," Mr Jacob said.

"It is a great way for the family to reconnect outdoors on a special day of the year.

"The diversity of experiences available in national parks, from cycling to bushwalking, canoeing and swimming, can be enjoyed by all, regardless of age and ability.

"Children can also learn more about the native animals and plants which make our national parks such unique and special places."

Ms Davies said spending Father's Day at a national park was a great opportunity to increase physical activity.

"There is no question that children and their families need to balance screen time with green time," she said.

"Evidence shows that children who are more physically active learn better and I encourage young people to take their dads outside for some Nature Play and celebrate Father's Day with a springtime walk in a national park."
