All the magic and excitement of the circus comes to town when the WA Circus Festival visits Karridale next week.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the three-day festival would bring together international, national and local contemporary circus performers.

"A range of unique performers will wow audiences under the big top with aerial performance, clowning, acrobatics, burlesque, stilt walking, juggling and much more," Dr Hames said.

"With a focus on characters, costumes, music and astounding human agility, contemporary circuses have become a popular spectacle around the world, and this event will be a great addition to our State's event calendar.

"Regional events are important as they provide significant economic, social and cultural benefits to the community, as well as increase the region's profile through media exposure."

The State Government is supporting the event through Eventscorp's Regional Events Scheme (RES), which is funded by Royalties for Regions.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said that Royalties for Regions had provided a $40million boost over four years to regional events, including $1.8million for the Regional Events Scheme. With funding from Eventscorp, this brings the total support for the RES to $3million.

"It is great to see that through the Regional Events Scheme, Royalties for Regions is able to support this exciting and fun family event in the South-West region," Mr Grylls said.

"The State Government recognises the value of regional events and the positive contribution they make to regional communities in making them vibrant, more exciting places in which to live."
