Boasting more than 180 vintage and classic cars, this long weekend's Albany Classic Motor Event will be two days of historic motoring at its best.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the Albany Classic was the nation's longest running event of its kind and would feature classic Australian, British and German sports cars, along with touring vehicles and open-wheeled racers.

"Albany is brimming with Western Australian heritage, making it the ideal backdrop for this classic event with cars covering more than 80 years of motoring history," Dr Hames said.

"Albany's historic streets will roar with classic motor engines on Sunday as more than 180 restored and preserved vehicles drive past heritage buildings for the 'round-the-houses' event.

"On Saturday, drivers and their prized vehicles will also be put to the speed test in a hill climb up Mount Clarence."

Dr Hames said the motoring event had become a highly anticipated feature on Albany's annual calendar and would be accompanied by live entertainment, markets, car displays and museum exhibitions.

"The State Government is proud to sponsor the Albany Classic through Eventscorp's Regional Events Scheme which is jointly funded by Royalties for Regions," he said.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said events were an important part of life in regional communities and he was proud of the contribution Royalties for Regions was making to them.

"With a significant $40million over four years committed to regional events, communities throughout the State are benefiting both socially and economically," Mr Grylls said.

"Events provide a wonderful reason for people to visit the regions and with more visitors, local economies are boosted and communities are engaged."
