A conference focused on initiatives to develop the State's Rangelands will be an opportunity for the public to meet Government and pastoral industry leaders, including Lands Minister Terry Redman and Water Minister Mia Davies.

Mr Redman encouraged industry representatives, potential investors, traditional owners, pastoralists and other rangeland stakeholders to attend the Rangelands: Sustainable Economic Development in Western Australia Conference 2016 to be held on March 1 in Perth.

"The Rangelands Conference is an exciting event that will inspire new thinking and activities in existing rangelands stakeholders and those looking to expand economic opportunities in the regions," he said.

"Rangelands diversification and development is crucial for the future of our State and provides enormous potential for increased economic and employment opportunities, improved land management and enhanced sustainability.

"I am looking forward to providing an update on the draft Land Administration Amendment Bill 1997, which will ensure legislation matched the State's current and future needs by creating a new form of land tenure known as a Rangelands lease. The intention of the Bill is to improve security of tenure for pastoral lessees, increase the value of pastoral leases, allow for more diverse land uses and unlock the potential of the Rangelands."

Other conference speakers include Harold Mitchell AC, pastoral industry leader and co-owner of Yougawalla Pastoral Company; Professor Lyn Beazley AO, former Chief Scientist of Western Australia; Graham Laitt, managing director of Milne AgriGroup Pty Ltd; and Dr Ross Barry, head of research and origination with First State Super.

A series of information sessions to explain the draft Bill will be held during the four-week public consultation period in April 2016.   Information sessions are being planned for Broome, Halls Creek, Port Hedland, Carnarvon, Mount Magnet, Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Perth.
