The State Government has awarded the contract for the new $8 million Mundijong police station with construction due to begin before the end of the year.

Police Minister Liza Harvey said the new Mundijong police station was a major part of the Liberal National Government's commitment to ensuring police were equipped with modern resources and accommodation.

"The $8 million Mundijong station will not only accommodate the current Mundijong Local Policing Teams, it will be able to cope with up to 30 years of growth in the region," Mrs Harvey said.

The Minister said the new station could accommodate up to 30 officers and up to 44 officers with minor modifications.

"The particular site we have chosen for the station also allows us to conduct major modifications to further increase officer capacity in the decades to come," she said.

The current Mundijong station will continue its operations throughout construction of the new station which is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

"The Liberal National Government is committed to making our communities safer through tough laws and providing police with the resources they need to combat crime and anti-social behaviour," Mrs Harvey said.
