The Cancer Wellness Centre, to be located at Wanslea House in Cottesloe, has today received a Lotterywest grant of $685,048 towards its fit-out.

The cheque was presented to the Cancer Wellness Centre - a shared facility for cancer support organisations - by Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier, Donna Faragher MLC, representing Premier Colin Barnett.

Mrs Faragher said this was the third Lotterywest grant to support the development of what would be the first holistic, integrated cancer wellness centre in Western Australia.  It is scheduled for completion by early 2014.

"This will be a one-of-a-kind, world-class support centre offering a shared campus environment for those West Australians affected in some way by cancer," she said.

The centre will house the Cancer Support Association (CSA), Breast Cancer Care WA, Melanoma WA and the Brady Cancer Support Foundation.

"In a landmark location, the centre will provide new facilities to help achieve excellence in cancer support, healing, education and cancer prevention for West Australians," Mrs Faragher said.

The Wanslea building on Railway Street in Cottesloe, now known as Wanslea House, is a heritage-listed building with a history of caring for West Australians dating back to 1905.

Since 2011, over $6.5million in Lotterywest grants has been provided to the National Trust of Australia WA for the redevelopment of Wanslea into this world-class cancer wellness facility.

In 2012-13, Lotterywest raised a record $274.5million for beneficiaries including WA's hospitals, arts, sports and recreational groups. This includes $123.3million in direct grants to over 1,000 different community organisations throughout the State.
